AAC Mentoring

Starting out with a communication device can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re exploring AAC for the first time or looking to feel more confident using your current system, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

At iCommunicate, we offer AAC mentoring grounded in real-life experience — not just theory. You’ll work one-on-one with Caytlin Weir, a social worker and AAC user who understands what it’s like to navigate the world with a physical disability and a high-tech voice.

Why Work With Me?

I’ve used AAC since I was 12, and I know both the challenges and possibilities it brings. I specialise in mentoring people who share similar physical disabilities to my own — because I believe there’s power in learning from someone who truly understands your day-to-day experience.

Due to my own mobility limitations, I’m not the right fit for individuals who require high levels of movement-based or sensory support — but if you’re looking for support with communication confidence, vocabulary building or using your device more meaningfully, I’d love to help.

What We Can Focus On

AAC mentoring is tailored to you.

Sessions can include:

  • Getting to know your device features and shortcuts

  • Setting up personalised vocabulary or folders

  • Practising real-life conversations and social interactions

  • Building confidence in using AAC in public or with your support team

  • Developing scripts or strategies for tricky situations

Devices I Work With

While I specialise in:

  • Prentke Romich Company (PRC) devices

  • LAMP Words for Life

  • Minspeak systems

…I also support users of most high-tech AAC devices and apps. If you’re unsure whether I can work with your system, feel free to reach out — I’ll always be honest and help point you in the right direction.

Let’s build your voice, together.

AAC should reflect who you are — and help you share that with the world.

How It Works

  • One-on-one mentoring, delivered online or in-person (Newcastle NSW)

  • Flexible, goal-oriented sessions that match your communication style

  • You’re welcome to include a support person or therapist if that’s helpful

  • NDIS participants welcome — we can chat about how this fits into your plan

If you're ready to take the next step in your communication journey, I'm here to walk beside you.

Watch Cayt and Sandra’s Story

In this inspiring video, Cait shares Sandra’s AAC journey—one that underscores the power of advocacy and the belief that communication is a human right.

After discovering Sandra had an unused device, Cayt uncovered missing supports in her NDIS plan and requested a review. When delays persisted, Cayt took action—escalating the issue to parliament. Her advocacy led to a new planning meeting and ultimately, a new communication device for Sandra.

This story is a testament to the impact of dedicated AAC mentoring and the power of speaking up.
